The publication Moje cesta k našim Němcům (“My Journey to Our Germans”), released by Lichtung Verlag, offers personal reflections by prominent Czech authors on their former Sudeten German compatriots. It is neither an encyclopaedia nor a statement of “one truth,” but rather a mosaic of experiences, memories and relationships – often formed at the fragile intersection of closeness and pain, yet capable of opening dialogue where silence or simplification usually prevail.
The discussion will feature Jindřich Mann and Eva Lustigová, who will reflect on her multilayered relationship with Germans in the context of her Jewish heritage, the Holocaust and the present day. The opening address will be delivered by Wolfgang Schwarz, cultural officer of the Adalbert Stifter Verein and editor of the publication. The discussion will be moderated by Martina Viktorie Kopecká and Veronika Smyslová. Together, we will attempt to articulate what happens when we say “our Germans” – and what that phrase may contain: memory, family, guilt, injustice, and the possibility of understanding.
The programme takes place as part of the Gathering of the Sudeten German Landsmannschaft.
The event has been organised in cooperation with the Ackermann-Gemeinde, with the support of the Czech-German Future Fund.
Advance reservation is required. Please note that your reservation does not guarantee a seat; it grants access to the BVV premises.
