When Home Is Missing

discussion

Home is not just a roof overhead. For children who have lost it, it also means safety, relationship, trust – and often a long journey back to the feeling of belonging somewhere. In this programme, The Journey to Home, we will speak about foster care and adoption without simplifications: about joy and exhaustion, about the system and everyday reality, and above all about what it means to turn compassion into the steady, ordinary presence of “we are here”.

The evening will offer two complementary perspectives. Barbora Postránecká, journalist and author of the book Náhradka, will bring concrete stories and experiences of people who have welcomed a child into their care – including what is invisible at the beginning and what often becomes known only “behind closed doors”. Štěpán Jílka, Government Commissioner for Institutional and Protective Education, will add a systemic perspective: what works today, where the obstacles lie, and what needs to change so that children can grow up in a home whenever possible.
