Coming Home Through Music

Music can say “come closer” even where words fall short. This concert brings together a delicate map of reconciliation: from Brno to Europe and back again. Side by side, we will hear Leoš Janáček and Zdeněk Pololáník, and alongside them – not in opposition, but in dialogue – Widmar Hader, Andreas Willscher and Dietmar Gräf: composers born in what is now the Czech Republic who have returned throughout their lives to the idea of understanding between Czechs and Germans. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart will serve as a fixed point in the programme – a pillar on which this fragile structure can lean.

At the organ, German organist, composer and educator Dr Dietmar Gräf will perform together with Petr Kolař. They will be joined by the Brno Cathedral Choir Magnificat, NdB soloist Ondřej Koplík, and organist Dagmar Kolařová. An evening awaits that promises no easy answers – but offers a shared tone.

The programme takes place as part of the Gathering of the Sudeten German Landsmannschaft.

The event has been organised in cooperation with the Ackermann-Gemeinde, with the support of the Czech-German Future Fund.

Advance reservation is required.
