Brno’s former prison on Cejl was, for thousands of people, a place where “home” was reduced to a cell, a bunk, and a few personal belongings – and for some, it became their final address. This guided tour opens the gates of a unique historical site and leads us through authentic spaces where great historical events intersected with fragile, often forgotten individual lives.
Over the course of approximately 60 minutes, we will learn about the building’s development from the 18th century to the mid-20th century, about the social and political context of each period, and about what it meant to “live” in a space designed above all to break a person. The tour offers a powerful experience and a deeper understanding of Brno’s history – both the visible and the one that remains embedded in its walls.
