Takashi Paolo Nagai, known as the “Japanese Gandhi,” was a radiologist who survived the atomic explosion in Nagasaki in 1945. This tragedy, which claimed tens of thousands of lives, marked a turning point not only in his life but also in the history of Japan. Despite severe radiation exposure and personal loss, he dedicated the rest of his life to helping the victims, rebuilding the city, searching for hope, reconciliation, and meaning in this catastrophe.
Nagai’s life story is a symbol of the strength that can emerge from the rubble. In his approach to suffering and personal sacrifice for others, we find not only humanity but also a deep desire for peace that transcends war conflicts and personal loss. Through his writings and actions, Nagai shows that true peace has its price — courage, forgiveness, and the ability to transform tragedy into hope.
The exhibition offers visitors a chance to glimpse into the life of this extraordinary man. It allows reflection on the price we are willing to pay for peace in our own lives and how even from unimaginable loss, we can draw strength for renewal and reconciliation.
The exhibition will be available until August 31, 2025.
The event will be held in Czech only.
The event is created in collaboration with Bechyně Watchmaking, Comunione e Liberazione, and the Diocese of Brno.
