The Vanished Sudetenland

The exhibition The Vanished Sudetenland maps various regions of Bohemia and Moravia where, after World War II, the German minority was expelled. The most significant changes occurred in the border mountain areas, where efforts to repopulate were not very successful. The exhibition presents the post-war fate of the cultural landscape and villages, many of which have completely disappeared. What makes this exhibition exceptional and the reason for its success are the photo pairs, which offer the opportunity to compare the appearance of the places in the past and today. Some of the historical photographs are more than one hundred years old. In contrast, images from the turn of the millennium capture the same places. These photographs most clearly document the transformation of the landscape and thus materialize the symbolic imprint of history in the land.

The exhibition will be guided by Tereza Štěpková from the organization Antikomplex.

The event will be held in Czech.

This event is organized in collaboration with the Museum of the City of Brno, Arnold Villa, and the non-profit organization Antikomplex.
