Belarusian Martyrology

A discussion on the situation in Belarus will take place at the Institute of the Memory of Nations Brno on the occasion of the opening of an exhibition of portraits of Belarusian political prisoners. The artist Ksisha Aniolawa drew inspiration for her work from the peaceful protests against the falsification of the results of the European Parliament and presidential elections in the summer and autumn of 2020. Thousands of people were fined, tortured and imprisoned. The portraits have already been exhibited in Berlin, Munich and Brussels.

Esteemed journalist Ondřej Kundra from Respekt weekly, acclaimed artist Kseniya Angelova, and Volha Aleinik, Programme Director at the Institute for Development and Social Market in Belarus and Eastern Europe, will delve into the oppressive tactics of the Belarusian regime, its implications in the Russian invasion of Ukraine, and the plight of “disappeared” political detainees.

Recommended reservations here.
The programme will be held in English.

Come join us and take part in the discussion about the fate of Belarusian society. We look forward to seeing you. Refreshments will be available for purchase at the Café Paměti národa Brno throughout the programme. This programme is supported by the Statutory City of Brno and the South Moravian Region.
