Presentation of newly discovered photos of the Ernst Löw-Beer villa

Sometimes miracles happen. One such moment was when the husband and wife, Daniela Hammer-Tugendhat and Ivo Hammer, awardees of the City of Brno Prize for international cooperation, during the Meeting Brno festival 2017 received from their relatives of the Löw-Beer family a large while photo album of detailed photographs documenting the villa in Kalvodova 8, Brno – the last residence that the family built in Brno. The client was Ernst Löw-Beer, a cousin of Grete Tugendhat, owner of Villa Tugendhat and mother of Daniela Hammer-Tugendhat. Speaking about the house, the work of Vienna-based architects Rudolf Baumfeld and Norbert Schlesinger, will be the architectural historian Vladimír Šlapeta and conservator-restorer Ivo Hammer, who will show the above-mentioned album and describe the circumstances of their US lecture tour.

The programme will be held in Czech and German.

Free entry. The capacity of the event is full.

PechaKucha Night “Brno builds old town” with a solo concert by Lenka Dusilová

PechaKucha Night “Brno builds old town” with a solo concert by Lenka Dusilová

It is five years since the proclamation of the Year of Reconciliation – how much have we achieved in terms of preserving the memory of our city? At present several large-scale projects are being developed in and around Brno, informed by the vision of creating documentation centres, museums, meeting places and galleries linked with the major historical events that have affected our region. Our festival team, which launched the Year of Reconciliation in 2015, seeks to act as the driving force in such memory projects, reflecting our multinational past. Over one evening, we’ll present to our audiences the proposed projects including their historical contexts.

The purpose of the PechaKucha concept, originating in Japan, is to make the presentations concise so that they keep the audience’s attention. In this format, each of the presenters shows 20 slides, commenting on each of them for 20 seconds.

The following projects will be presented:
– The former jailhouse in Cejl and its transformation into a Creative Centre and Place of Memory
– the Arnold Villa – Centre of Dialogue
– the Documentary Centre of the Holocaust in Moravia
– the Mendel Greenhouse
– the church of Blessed Restituta Kafka
– the Löw-Beer & Schindler Foundation memorial in Brněnec

Lenka Dusilová’s concert is part of PechaKucha Night.
