The film brings riveting stories of three women of different ages who are at different stages of alcohol addiction. Dorota, a forty-year-old, is a successful prosecutor who, in her words, drinks not to go crazy. Another of the heroines, acclaimed surgeon Teresa, has lost her family because of her  drinking and has only her work in hospital left. The student Magda loves wild parties, and since her studies go well and she has a good job, no one blames her. But then comes a moment when she loses ground and tragedy ensues.

Christian is a fighter and a man with a dubious past who reminds of a pit bull by his appearance. One stage of his life is over, he begins the next one as a helper in a warehouse somewhere in the former East Germany, where his most brilliant perspective is the opportunity  to operate a forklift. For someone who hardly manages their own life and survives at the bottom of the social ladder, even this is a big challenge. During one of his breaks, Christian meets the cheeky and charming Marion from the delicatessen department. Love Between the Shelves is a fragile, civil and realistic romance from a place where one can’t even see the sky.

Director: Thomas Stuber (2018, 125 minutes, German with Czech subtitles)

Admission: 100 CZK (tickets can be bought at the door half an hour before the screening or at the ticket office of the Scala cinema).
